Are you having trouble falling asleep at night? A large percentage reach out for medication to help them get a good night of sleep. Fortunately there is a more natural and tasty solution in a form of a smoothie. There are foods that contain natural substances and chemicals that help induce sleep. Personally I can not fall asleep on an empty stomach, with a bedtime smoothie you take care of both problems. Lets look at some of the ingredients that can contribute to a good sleep.

Cherries: A rich source of melatonin. A naturally occurring sleep hormone. Not only will it help you fall asleep quicker, but it improves the overall quality of sleep.

Bananas: Like cherries contain melatonin. Magnesium acts as a muscle relaxant. Serotonin, which in low levels causes sleep disruption, and even insomnia.

Milk: Contains tryptophan, an amino acid with sedative effects.

Almonds: Have both Tryptophan and magnesium. To make the smoothie, play around with the ingredient ratios to your own liking of above ingredients. If you don’t have time to make your smoothie, remember you can always have the traditional warm milk and honey. Or just eat some cherries and bananas 30 minutes before sleep. Remember,  not getting proper sleep can affect your health. Always try to get the best sleep possible.
