As hard as it may be to believe this, but chocolate is at the top of the list. Most of us use chocolate when making banana or cherry smoothies. It helps enhance the flavor plus taste of these smoothies. This is due to its tasty nature that can in no way be compared to any other kind of ingredient. It is by far the tastiest ingredient to be used in smoothies as of today; chocolate lovers will agree! However, as sweet as it is, it still contains a very high amount of calories and fats which are not good for the body. This will only make you add on a couple of pounds rather than losing weight. On the other hand, it has been found that taking chocolate in high amounts leads to blood sugar spikes which in the end cause a lot of headaches, nausea, dizziness and at times fatigue. In extreme cases, the blood sugar spikes can end up bringing about a coma.
Secondly, there is the caramel. Just like the chocolate, caramel contains very high amounts of fats plus calories. This will not help in you losing weight or keeping fit; it will do the exact opposite. On the other hand, it also contains sodium. Despite the fact that it is free of calories, sodium is still known to cause disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Stroke or even cardiovascular diseases. In addition to this, since it has no calories, this does not mean it can not lead to gaining of weight. Sodium is good at water retention. This will lead to gaining of weight due to the high amount of water in the body.
Full fat milk is another popular ingredient in most smoothies nowadays. However, if the aim of the smoothies is to help you lose weight then you will have to do without the milk. This is because the full fat milk contains very huge amounts of fat. Skim might make a better alternative or even the two percent milk. Whipped cream is another common smoothies ingredient that normally contains a lot of fat. However, the cream also contains some dietary sodium which might also cause some body disorders. Avoid all these ingredients when making your smoothies and you will be guaranteed of a healthy smoothie diet.
